Bunker of the warriors of Ukrainian Insurgent Army

Budzyn village, Tlumach district,

Ivano-Frankivsk region

On Dniester cliff, near Dumka hamlet until recently a legendary giant oak has been growing (burned out from lightning). As old-timers said the image of St. Onuphrius had appeared three times on the tree, and the villagers decided to build a church in honor of the martyr on the mountain. According to legend, this church was built only by men. When the construction fitted to the end, one of the women could not kept the temptation and walked to look at the structure. And a strange thing happened - the stone axes became wooden, and it was impossible to work with them, so the church construction was never finished. In 1993, on this place in the tract "Horodysche” a chapel was built in honor of St. Onuphrius.

Below the chapel there is a cave in which the warriors of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists - Ukrainian Insurgent Army were hiding during the liberation struggle. People say that in 1945 the special detachment of NKVD annihilated the partisans’ bunker by grenades.
