Hoverla (2061m) and Chornogora mountain range
Carpathian National Nature Park (CNNP)
The highest peak and the range of the Ukrainian Carpathians and Ukraine.
Hoverla as the highest mountain of Ukraine has become a natural symbol of our country, in particular, of Hutsul-land. It is located in the Chornogora range that separates Ivano-Frankivsk region and Transcarpathian region (Rakhiv district).
A part of its territory belongs to the CNNP, another part - to the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve (CBR).
It is possible to reach the mountain by many paths on both sides. The main ones are marked: from tracts Zaroslyak, Kozmeschyk and along the Chornogora range. There is another way from the village Luhy in Rakhiv district to the pass between the mountains Petros and Hoverla.
The mountain name comes most likely from the Romanian language in the sense of "mountain hard to be reached" or Hungarian – “snow mountain”.
Every year, especially during the national holidays, thousands of people climb Hoverla.
The Prut river starts from its top and falls after the first circus in the next by 80-meter multi-cascade waterfall.
