Robert’s bunker (Yaroslav Melnyk)

Roztoky tract (near Lypa village), Dolyna district,

Ivano-Frankivsk region

The most remote and best disguised bunker of Ukrainian Insurgent Army soldiers

The bunker is located in a nook (bear corner) of the Ukrainian Carpathians behind the mountain Yavoryna. Having got over several kilometers of steepmountain trails, you see the place where Major "Robert" heroically died together with his wife and faithful sworn brothers. You will also be convinced that even withtraitor assistance it is extremely difficult to find their bunker.

Special group together with 100 fighters and commanders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs troops were unsuccessfully rummaging over the woods for almost a week searching for this bunker, but it was so firmly disguised that all their efforts were in vain. The light snow fell, melting over the bunker faster then over the other places, and the insurgents’ hidden place was discovered at 16:00 on October 31, 1946.

There is a cemetery arranged in Hlyboky tract at 1,5 km far from the bunker (45 min. by walk). Here the rebels of the command-instructors school, that was operating in the area in 1944 and headed by Pol-Poliovy, are buried in the joint grave.

There are two paths to the bunker – one from Lypa village, the other – from the “Carpathian tram” stop in Hlyboky tract.
